Group Health Commute Challenge open for registration at www.Cascade.org

Join thousands of local cyclists biking to work during May (and beyond) by registering for the Group Health Commute Challenge.

The Commute Challenge is one of Cascade’s most powerful tools for recruiting new riders. Surveys show that 20 percent of participants are new bicycle commuters and that ALL riders end up making more trips. This leads to all sorts of benefits. The more bicyclists on our roads, the more effectively Cascade can advocate for better bicycle facilities. And greater numbers of cyclists make the streets safer for all riders.

Great Seattle Bicycle Expo!

We will be exhibiting our business at the Greater Seattle Bicycle Expo www.Cascade.org
We will have our cowbell keychains and will be showing off some great FOCUS Bicycles.

Saturday, March 12, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Sunday, March 13, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Tickets
Adult admission:
$10 – single-day pass
$12 – two-day pass

Kids 15 and under are FREE!

Please note: We accept CASH ONLY at the door. An ATM will be available.

Cascade Bicycle Club members can receive a $2 discount by showing a membership card.

Location: The 2011 Seattle Bicycle Expo will be held once again in the deluxe, newly-constructed, two-story Smith Cove Cruise Terminal, which overlooks the Puget Sound and features a magnificent view of downtown Seattle and the Olympic Mountain range.

Seattle to Portland Aftermath

What a great weekend for the annual Seattle to Portland! Great weather and great hosts, Cascade Bicycle Club!
I rode 100 miles from Centralia to Portland. I had a great ride in spite of my lack of training (don’t do this ). It was nice not to arrive in Lexington totally out of gas. Congratulations to Jerry Baker who completed his 31st STP. Amazing!

Seattle to Portland and FSA Grand Prix

Holy Mackerel! Seattle to Portland is next weekend. It snuck up reallly quickly. The following weekend is the FSA Grand Prix at Marymoor Velodrome. Before you know it, we will be drinking sodas at the StarCrossed Cyclocross Event in September. It didn’t help that summer started late. This is one of my busiest weeks of the season.

Summer, true summer, in Seattle is the best!

Bike to Work – Seattle

Corpore Sano hosted a commuter station for Cascade Bicycle Club’s hosted Bike to Work Day here in Seattle. I was out there at 5:10am to set up the booth by 6am. My first “guest” was Mick Walsh who promised to be by at 5:20am. Mick was my motivation to keep to the schedule in light of the time of day. We set up 2 tents, 1 Corpore Sano and 1 FOCUS Bicycles. We even had a FOCUS Izalco bicycle on display! We served coffee and baked goodies that were donated by Great Harvest in Lake Forest Park. Thank you to Jeff at Great Harvest – Lake Forest Park! Great stuff as always. We had ~350 bicyclists roll by our station from 6am – 9am today. Fewer commuters than last year most likely due to the cold and damp conditions.
All in all a great day for commuting by bicycle! Thanks to Cascade for their support of bicycle advocacy in the community.

Greater Seattle Bicycle Expo Setup!

Upstairs in the Smith Cove Terminal

Seattle Bike Expo is this weekend at the Smith Cove Terminal in the Magnolia area. Cascade has done a good job of marking your way into the show. I had the good fortune of taking my material in early to set up. Made the set up process much easier! I would imagine the scene/this space will look much different with all the other vendors. I have some great neighbors, such as Tiger Tail, NUUN, Recycled Cycles and the show main sponsor,….Raleigh. The new location for the Seattle Bike Expo is beautiful,….and warm! Great views of Seattle. Wonderful place to hang out and obscess over all things “bicycle”!

Busy Weekends

The completion of Chilly Hilly heralds my “busy season”. These current three weeks have been no exception.

First there was Bike Swap. People were in the buying mood this year and we were able to effectively clean out our garage. We then went up to Vancouver to be with the “people” in the streets during the USA vs Canada hockey showdown. Large-loud-crowd 101 for our children.

Last Friday I was honored to give a presentation at Pacific Lutheran University’s Symposium on Sport and Recreation (www.PLU.edu). The next two days I hosted the Bronze-level course for my BikePT cirriculum. BikePT is a continuing education program that teaches Physical Therapists how to work effectively with the injured or painful bicyclist. www.BikePT.com

This coming weekend is the Greater Seattle Bicycle Expo as hosted by Cascade Bicycle Club. Cascade has moved the Expo this year to the Magnolia area. Please be advised. We will be there again this year! Please plan to stop by and say “Hi”. I will be doing a Bike Fit lecture on Sunday afternoon.
